New York City Living Room

A perfectly appointed New York City living room is my focus today. My talented dear friend A.Ro. sent me this photo of her cute dog Maddox in her West Village living room in NYC. A.Ro. is a creative executive at a major fashion brand. Love her style. She recently re-decorated her New York City apartment. Read More

Book Review: Decorate for a Party

I’ve been living now for nine years in a cosy albeit too small rooftop apartment. Too small in the sense that it houses me as one person perfectly but whenever i wanted to invite friends I felt challenged. Is there enough space? Sufficient seating? Things would even get more complicated if a dinner was envisioned. Throwing a party in my small home was not a real option. Until I glanced into the new book ‘Decorate for a Party’ by my friend and fellow blogger Holly Becker and Leslie Shewring.

The book starts with first thoughts and party types. In this chapter the authors discuss also parties in small spaces. I read it carefully and now I feel inspired to throw a party myself. Especially after I delved into the following decorating chapters.

The book ‘Decorate for a Party’ (in German: Feierlaune) presents 10 different party themes. Each theme is unique and has a special visual appeal. But the the two talented authors do not remain focused solely on decoration. They describe the mood and atmosphere, they suggest party themes, patterns and even playlists for the perfect party. Food suggestions, simple DIY ideas and guest gift suggestions round up every chapter.

Beautiful photography accompanies each of the 10 topics. Going through the book I have discovered quite a few favorites. ‘New + Romantic’ is a wonderful theme with soft colours and a boho vibe. ‘Fresh + Modern’ is cool, clean with a reference to mid-century design and some charming plant decor ideas. ‘Pure + Simple’ emphasizes the beauty of nature and uses natural hues and materials.

‘Decorate for a Party’ is unlike many interior books. It is a handy guide and inspirational book in one. And after going through the book you will be left with one thought: We need more parties in our life. And getting this book is just another good excuse to throw a party. So what you’re waiting for?

Before & Progress: Farmhouse-Inspired Entry Hall

the-inspired-room-white-entry-hallway-fall-house-tourRemember when I revealed that we almost bought an Alpaca Farm? I still think it would have been a dream to wake up everyday and hug an Alpaca. But, it would have also probably been the death of us trying to run a farm. As much as I loved that idea, it was a more sensible choice for us to move […]

11 Glam Closets

In all of my house hunting recently I’m realizing something…I love closets…a glamorous walk in closet with a chandelier and some clean white shelves with plenty of room for me to make a mess and no one has to see it…that is the dream. I could tear apart my closet looking for the right black Read More

Painted Nightstand: Before & After

plum-master-bedroom-the-inspired-roomPainted Nightstand: French Linen Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Months ago I found a mirrored night nightstand at HomeGoods for my side of the bed. Our previous nightstands were too big for our new little bedroom, so we had to start over. There wasn’t a matching nightstand at the store where I was and I couldn’t find […]

How to Make Your Bed So It Makes Your Day (Crane and Canopy)

master-bedroom-the-inspired-room-crane-and-canopyThis post is sponsored by Crane and Canopy In the fall and winter (and honestly in every season), my favorite room is our cozy bedroom. It’s a pretty tiny room, but that just makes it feel like a little nest. It’s my cocoon, my comfy spot to retreat from the world and the place I look forward to going at the […]

At Home In Paris

Many of you know that I am a frequent Paris visitor. Yet I am a pretty bad source when it comes to good hotel recommendations in Paris. Why? Well because I have something like a second home in Paris. Traveling is perfect and staying in hotels is grand too. But nothing beats a little ‘chez soi’ in Paris, right? So here are just a few peeks of my home away from home.

Since I am not living all the time in Paris, the home has its own style and vignette. I helped styling bits and pieces, but it is important to me to keep it personal and individual for the actual dweller there. The colour palette is pretty obvious. Teal and various shades of turquoise mix with dashes of yellow and orange. It is a pretty warm and cheerful colour combination.

Like all rented places this one has its shortcomings too. The flooring is an abomination and the wall paint is difficult to say the least. But life is rarely about perfection. It is about compromises and making the best out of it. The most important fact is that it is cosy and a lovely home. That’s all what counts.

Some aspects, however, I have copied from Munich. The latest addition is the Smood mattress, which I also have in Munich. I love to sleep on this mattress and the best solution was to have it in Paris too. Which is what I did. It even feels more like home now. And no hotel bed can beat that! I also have bits and pieces from my various design trips. For example, I added the Wing chair in yellow from the Spanish design brand Actiu. To keep warm I brought back the blue Loom blanket from Muuto.

Last but not least I also have some more important facts for a happy home: plants, good music and coffee. In Paris I have my coffee ritual too which is French Press of course. A few sturdy succulents are being taken care of with my cute Xala watering can and a record player takes care of the good vibe. What else can you wish for at home away from home?
