Leave it to Finnish design duo ‘Sanna ja Olli’ to enchant us with a new magical collection with a mysterious name: Onnenmaa. That cryptic name tranlates to ‘Arcadia’ and features a dream-like collection of home textiles and – for the first time – dressing gowns. If you are a regular reader of Happy Interior Blog, you are already familiar with the Finnish design duo ‘Saana ja Olli’. I wrote about their previous collections here and here. Today I want to show you some of my favorite pieces from their latest collection inspired by a dreamy escape from the daunting world situation.

The new ‘Onnenmaa’ collection is defined by light brush strokes and free associations of a dream-like space. They evoke art, the south, playfulness, and give a certain comfort for your safe haven – your home. Despite the new design approach, ‘Saana ja Olli’ remain true to their signature style: the modern day nordic folk craft aesthetics. ‘All our previous collections have been drawn with markers so the brush painting was a new method for working. The dream-like aesthetics were created through free association and meditation practises’, says Olli Sallinen, the other half of the designer couple. ‘From the beginning we have had strong principles regarding the criteria of good design. We want our lines to match one another, and we always make sure the materials and production are of highest quality’, adds designer Saana Sipilä.

As always, all products from the new collection are made from durable European 100 % hemp fabric, and they are produced in Finland. The new collection includes home textiles such as kitchen textiles as well as pillow and cushion covers. Additionally, this time the design label extended the collection to dressing gowns. I already have a few pieces from their previous collections at home and I can tell you, the touch and feel of hemp textiles is so nice! I can’t wait to add a few new pieces from this collection to my home too. I mean have you seen the little hemp containers and how cute they look when you place a potted plant into them? Oh yes!

One aspect that drew my attention to the new collection is its rich pattern evoking artists like Matisse or Gauguin, two painters I admire. Additionally, I love the playfulness of the brush strokes. It speaks to my wabi-sabi inspired interior aesthetic. Luckily the new collection is out now and available for purchase. I already made my choice. What about you?
