Today I want to take you on a virtual voyage to Québec City in Canada. Let’s not talk about time management as my trip to Québec was in May this year, and yes, now it is December already! But the trip will be a visual treat, I promise! I visited Québec City twice already and loved it both times. This cute Canadian city has a strong French flavour to it and the old town will make you forget you are in North America. But judge for yourself. Fancy to visit the fairtytale city with me? Buckle up, here we go!

Québec City is very French. Especially if you stick to the old town (which most tourists do), you get the feeling you are somewhere in northern France. Old houses, cobbled streets, horse carriages, and the ever present French language (albeit Québecois, which is an own dialect). Québec City’s strongest landmark is probably the hotel Fairmont le Chateau Frontenac which sits like a fortress on top of the old town. But today I have another beautiful boutique hotel for you to recommend. In fact it is the hotel where I was staying and where I felt pampered like a king: the Auberge Saint-Antoine in the old Québec City.

The Auberge Saint-Antoine is a fascinating place. It is probably the best hotel to experience the history of Québec City. Why? Because from the moment you enter you will see that this hotel sits on a place with history. During the hotel’s construction many artifacts of the area came to the surface. From ancient walls to pottery, everyday objects, and trading goods – every item telling the history of this spot and city. The hotel chose to integrate those elements into its interior concept thus creating a fascinating combination of hotel and museum. Additionally, every room has a name and special concept. I need not mention that the service is impeccable and the hotel’s restaurant serves excellent farm-to-table food.

If you ever decide to visit Québec City, I recommend you stay at the Auberge Saint-Antoine. Its location in the old town is perfect for discoveries of the main sights in town. You can wander the paved streets and check out charming little boutiques and restaurants. Stroll through the fairytale like Petit Champlain area, climb up to the city’s citadel with stunning views of the St. Lawrence River, and walk up the Rue Saint Louis and the Grande Allée. Do not miss the opportunity to taste the local dish Poutine (French fries served with cheese and a special sauce) and one of the many local beers. If you want to experience more traditional Québecoise cuisine go to the cute Aux Anciens Canadiens. It is also a very popular photo spot by the way.

If you have some extra time at hand, take the ferry across the St. Lawrence River to the opposite town of Lévis. Way less touristy and very residential it gives you a good impression of real life in Québec. Oh and if you are there please stop at Chocolats Favoris. Oh my goodness! The creamy soft ice is dipped into all kinds of yummy sauces like hazelnut chocolate, salted caramel and many more to your likings. If you have a sweet tooth you will thank me forever for this tip! They have a boutique in Québec City too but I preferred the one in Lévis. Also if you have a car take the short drive up north to the Montmorency Falls. Impressive and really beautiful! These waterfalls are the highest in Québec and even higher than the famous Niagara Falls. Suspended bridges, winding stairways, and a zipline add to the adventure character.

Of course there is much much more to see in Québec City but my recommendation is to wander the streets and discover the city for yourself! That’s how I stumbled upon cool places like the Cantook coffeehouse on the Rue Saint-Jean or the hip Mælstrøm café in the up-and-coming Saint-Roch area. Additionally I stopped at vintage vinyl stores and small bakeries along the way. Also worth a visit: The old church-turned-into-library Maison de la Littérature. Stunning architecture and a great place to unwind and rest for a little bit!

Ok enough for today. I hope I could give you a little impression of Québec City and maybe you understood why I visited this quaint town twice already. Plus now you know where you can stay and truly enjoy your visit – the folks at Auberge Saint-Antoine will be happy to welcome you to Québec City! Enjoy!
