White Vanity Hey, there, friend! Remember my indecision over what to do with my mint and pink bathroom? I know a few of you have asked me if we plan to work on our bathroom this year. I really realllly hope to! Funds are probably my biggest limitation with that project (grrr) but there are […]

I have adored this charming kitchen ever since I first saw it years ago in The Cottage Journal. Her lovely kitchen was designed by another talented […]

Sometimes all we need is a break. Luckily, Jane of the label WERA JANE had the same thought when she took a break from her studies. She freed up her time and started a passion project: designing lampshades. She started the label WERA JANE in Leipzig, Germany, and launched beautiful, handmade lampshades made of Italian thread. The lampshades are hand-woven and have interesting shapes resembling old UFO-form lampshades from the 1970s. And everything is really handmade – from the welding of the frame to weaving the actual lampshade.
When I discovered WERA JANE on Instagram I was quickly attracted by the shapes and colours of her lampshades. I am particularly drawn to the earthy hues, dark greens and dark blues. Pendants have been on the forefront so far, but now Jane has launched a new collection of table lamps. I am a tiny bit in love with the model Silas.
Discovering young creatives who are brave and talented is a real joy when blogging. People who take the leap and fear not to let go of old habits and their comfort zone – that is mostly the magic when creating and launching a new label. If there is passion, you can feel it and see it in the products. And with WERA JANE you can definitely see the passion behind every one-of-a-kind lampshade.
The last question that lingers in my head is: Where would be the best place for Silas chez moi? Well let me think…and make your choice too. Better now then later as her lampshades are selling like hot cakes. Yum!

Moving into a new apartment comes with many challenges and home decor adventures. Once your furniture moved in and found its place, it is time to think of a few more decor details. One of them being a gallery wall. Hanging art in a brand new apartment can be somewhat scary. You know, deciding where to hang what and then hammering the first nail – can you hear the inner scream? Well, I went through all those angst phases but with a little help I managed to kick off my new gallery wall. Together with my go-to source for beautiful art, Juniqe, I started my new gallery wall in the living room.
One of my living room walls is painted in a dark grey shade (Down Pipe by Farrow & Ball if you wonder). I figured this would be a fabulous backdrop for plants and art. Leaning towards a darker, moody look, I went through many options on Juniqe and found three art prints to set the overall tone of the gallery wall. My overarching theme is nature. I wanted something to compliment my plants and the earthy colours of my apartment. I also wanted to start with three framed art prints. Three is a good number to start a little gallery wall. Depending on your preferences, you can go for a more streamlined look with equal sizes or for a mix & match approach. No surprise that I tend to prefer to latter, right?
After deciding for three framed art prints, I also finalized the sizes. Three different sizes are great to play and see how the scale works on your wall. It is perfect to also build and extend the gallery wall from this starting point. Juniqe is great as they offer great framing options. For my moody look I wanted black wooden frames with white passepartouts to give a visual frame for darker art prints. The biggest framed piece would define the overall look. My choice was a beautiful orchid print. The black background and the green and yellow details are a real eye-catcher and make a great visual statement.
The medium sized print, set in the same black wooden frame, is also botanical. This time I opted for an art print with Philodendron leaves. The rich greens visually connect to my real houseplants sitting right under the gallery wall. Thus the gallery wall gets more depth and context in the room. And together with the orchid print it is a nice ensemble of botanical imagery – from flowers to foliage.
The smallest print is probably the quirkiest. The print shows a little hazel dormouse sitting in a blackberry branch. Dark hues, lush greens, purples and that cutie little mouse is just a perfect addition for the extra smile. Go quirky with at least one art print to make your gallery wall fun and interesting. The ensemble of the three framed art prints is a perfect starting point to build on. Adding new shapes, little details (like placing some crystals, stones, shells on top of the frames) and frames will add interest and tell a personal story. Also a quirky fourth print has found a new place – this whale print went onto another very inspiring wall – see it HERE.
If you feel inspired, I can only invite you to browse Juniqe and discover new art for your walls. Additionally, you can profit from a special promo code HIB15 only for this week – you can shop with a special 15% reduction! More inspiration can be found in their new online magazine.
