Hello 2017, hello dear readers! A new year, new resolutions, new chances. All lies in front of us. I hope you all had a relaxed and good start to the new year. And I wish you all the best in 2017 – may it be a particularly green one. Also I wish more peace in love for our planet in general. We had enough bad news the past years. Let’s make 2017 a better year, shall we?
This year I have decided to start without any resolutions. Instead I want to pursue my general motto: To only do things that I enjoy and like. Yes of course I know that it is not always possible to only do pleasant and fun things. But being determined and focused on the good is what counts. And that determination starts at home.
How can we make our home better in 2017? Well the rule is simple, though sometimes hard to stick to. Buy only things you love. Do not go for impulse purchases off the rack. Only if you really love something go for it. And try to obey to the rule ‘one in – one out’. For example: I got myself a wonderful new wool blanket handwoven on traditional looms in western Serbia. The blanket is from the new brand NITI Kilims & Blankets – I will tell you soon more about them. As a consequence I parted with another blanket. I gave it to my mum. One in, one out. I also got myself the new book ‘Life Unstyled’ by my friend and stylist Emily Henson. In return I gave away a total of eight (!!) other books that I haven’t used for reference in a while.
I am convinced that a carefully collected home renders its habitants happy. If you surround yourself with things that make you happy, the effect is similar to when you surround yourself with people that make you happy. Make your home your starting point for more happiness, creativity, success and love in 2017. It is your canvas. Your playground. It is your realm.
