Today’s blog headline has a double truth in it: Yes, this interview and home story is pretty nice. And it is an interview with my fellow blogger Lisa of Pretty Nice. Yup that’s the name of her lovely interiors blog. Lisa has been blogging since 2014 and has a pretty nice talent when it comes to interior styling. Her home is an ever changing inspiration for everyone interested in home decor and styling. Her knack for plants caught my eye quite a while ago. She also joined the Urban Jungle Bloggers community and contributed with her plant stylings to our Urban Jungle book. So let’s chat to Lisa and peek into her beautiful home, shall we?
Here on Happy Interior Blog I always stress the importance of a personal home. What makes your home a personal home?
You are absolutely right to stress that. I always notice that when I return after a weekend trip or a holiday, how good it feels to come home. It took me quite a while to find my own taste, but it finally resonates in every corner of our ‘Altbau’ apartment and I have never felt so comfortable in my own four walls. How you style your space always mirrors part of your character. I like it clean and tidy, not too colorful but warm at the same time. In addition, every piece of furniture has its history. A souvenir from a trip, a find from a Berlin flea market, a gift from friends – I think all these pieces make my home a personal home.
How do you like to unwind at home?
A cup of tea, a good book or movie – usually that’s all I need. Lately, I also like to get out my paint and brushes, just to get away from my computer since I spend more than enough time in front of it working.
How often do you restyle your home?
We just moved to our current apartment a year ago, so I am still restyling quite frequently. It always takes me a while until a room reaches its more or less final state. But when I’ve gotten to that level, I actually do not restyle that often. Then, I just switch out small details like pillowcases to adapt my home to a change in season or mood.
Where do you find new items for your styling projects?
I deal with new interior products and labels every day – that just comes with the job. That’s also the reason why I founded my own online shop Hej Home a while back, in which I try to unite the products that I love. It just so happens then that I am always surrounded by these beautiful interior pieces which I use for styling projects (and often keep for personal collection).
Do you have a favorite piece at home?
One piece that I really love is our old dining room table. I just recently had it handed down by my parents and have been sitting around it since I was a child. This is one of those pieces that have a personality and where every dent and scratch tells a different story. But aside from that, I do have a favorite piece of decoration every once in a while. At the moment that’s the wall flag, for example. Some motivational words from the wall never hurt nobody.
How important are plants for your home?
Plants are super important to me, even though this topic has become a bit tougher with the move in of our cats. But I could never go completely without plants as I love the warmth they bring to every home. Often they bring the final touches to a room and at the same time they do so much good for us!
A simple styling trick from you?
Do what you like and don’t overthink it. I believe that it’s really important to find your own taste and not run along with every trend. Then, nothing should be in the way of a beautiful home!
Thank you Lisa for the inspiring interview and the peeks into your lovely home! You can see more on her blog Pretty Nice, in her shop Hej Home, and in our Urban Jungle book.
