Hey Camel Ceramics!

I don’t have to explain and highlight the virtues of the internet. The web enables us to connect ourselves with likeminded people and creatives across the globe. One of those creative connections is ‘Hey Camel Ceramics’. This ceramics studio is located in Saigon (actually Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam, and boosts with beautiful handmade ceramics. ‘Hey Camel Ceramics’ is the creative outpost of Spanish ceramicist Leandro Marcelino and his partner Anthony Hoàng.

I don’t even remember how and when I discovered ‘Hey Camel Ceramics’ for the first time. It’s quite a while ago. Back then I ordered an Eye planter and ever since it has been pretty popular whenever I snap it on Instagram. If they were a bit closer, I guess I’d have more pieces at home but who knows – I am already eyeing a few new pieces. The Eye collection is still high on my wish list. This simple yet meaningful design really speaks to me. Vases, planters, a tea set – Leandro has created an entire range with the all-seeing eye symbol.

Every piece of ‘Hey Camel Ceramics’ is handmade and has this unique touch of a one-of-a-kind piece. In days of mass production this appeals to many of us as it adds a special touch to our homes. I love the dotted planters, the face planters, the Matisse inspired cups, or the small Vietnamese houses that can serve as vase, planter, or simply a decorative object in itself.

Now if I were closer I would shop more there as I said. Actually I would also sign up for a ceramics class in the studio. I have recently started the ceramics adventure by attending a course here in Munich but now I am thinking of a holiday trip to Vietnam combined with a ceramics class at ‘Hey Camel Ceramics’. That sounds pretty ace, don’t you agree?

Even though Vietnam seems to be on the other side of the world (as seen from the European perspective), it is not a hindrance to getting your hands on one of the handmade pieces from ‘Hey Camel Ceramics’. Not only are they beautiful, they are also pretty affordable compared to other studios based in Europe or the States. Have a look at their Facebook page, I am pretty sure you will fall in love with one or more of their ceramics pieces. For everything that follows I am not responsible:-)
