My recent trip to Canada included a real Canada classic: touring the Niagara Falls! It’s been my third in Canada and my second time at the Niagara Falls. Yet it is a breathtaking experience as it was the first time. The Niagara Falls are really a must when you visit Ontario. And this time, I had the opportunity to fully experience the Falls – from above, from behind, from the front! But let’s have a look at each option in detail!
Niagara Falls from above: This was the most amazing experience – I swear! If you want a unique and unforgettable Niagara Falls adventure, then opt for a helicopter flight. Niagara Helicopters is the address to go to. They offer fantastic flights above the Niagara Falls with an audio guide. Now if you suffer of vertigo, this is not the best option for you. However, if you like a unique experience, this is the thing to do – albeit a bit pricey! No worries if you are stressed out: It was my first helicopter flight ever and it was super relaxed. Moreover, it is very short and lasts only about 15 minutes.
Niagara Falls from behind: Here is another interesting option to experience the Falls. The ‘Journey behind the Falls’ takes you on a trip through 130-years old tunnels and guides you right behind the Falls. Peek holes offer a misty view of the roaring waters – quite impressive. But even more impressive is the terrace right next to the Horseshoe Falls. You are standing next to the waterfall – literally. What an experience!
Niagara Falls from up front: This is the classic! Taking the boat towards the American Falls and Horseshoe Falls is truly essential. The fun starts right at the beginning. You get funny red capes to protect yourself from the mist and the photo session can begin! The Hornblower Experience is pure fun! Even if you did a boat tour already, trust me, this makes you smile from ear to ear. Protect your gears or better yet, get a waterproof smartphone and you can immortalize the fun trip. And you know what: It even makes me smile in hindsight. So fun! Oh and don’t miss the new Nikola Tesla monument next to the Horseshoe Falls. The Serbian scientist spent a good deal of his professional career at the Niagara Falls!
If you plan a visit of the Niagara Falls, I recommend you plan a one-night stayover to be more at ease. Go to Niagara-on-the-Lake and stay there. It is picturesque, cute, and much nicer than the hotels in Niagara Falls itself. The quaint little town is a 30-minutes drive away from the Falls and lies on the shores of Lake Ontario. Additionally, this is Canada’s major wine growing region so you’ll be able to tast some good Canadian wine too. A nice option to stay is the lovely Harbour House Hotel.
I hope you enjoyed the little virtual voyage to the Niagara Falls in Canada! See you next time from another place!
