Balkan Design: Home Textiles by M Design

You all know that from time to time I like to peek to the Balkans and discover new design labels from southeastern Europe. Of course this is largely due to the fact that my family stems from the Balkans (maybe you have seen the 20 facts about me on Instagram). But this European region is also thriving with creative talents and the creative scene is still largely underrated. So let’s have a look at a new design label from Serbia this time: M Design. M Design is focused on home textiles and has launched a brand new collection at the end of last year.

M Design is the label of Serbian designer Milica Petrovic. From the very beginning, it was Milica’s mission to create high quality home textiles for the urban dweller. The fast-paced life nowadays calls for extra cosiness, quality, and warmth at home. And that’s where M Design comes into action with its range of textiles. By now, Milica has launched three textile collections under the label of M Design: ‘Live with Nature’, ‘Energy’, and the latest collection entitled ‘Love Mystical Balkan’.

For the latest collection ‘Love Mystical Balkan’, the designer has drawn inspiration from Serbia’s rich tradition – patterns, colours, craftsmanship. All these elements are a guiding theme throughout the latest textile pieces. Thus the result is a rich and bold collection of high quality textiles referencing typical Balkan design elements. So what is the mystical part in this collection? It is the interpretation of the rich slavic tradition shown in symbols and colours. Here the collection interprets traditional symbols in a contemporary way and plays with three major colours: white, black, and red. These shades symbolize the mythical brightness and darkness, the good and the evil, and the positive energy of love. Typical elements of slavic traditions.

Moreover, all home textiles are made of natural materials and all patterns are applied through screen printing. This results in unique pieces – every item is de facto a one-of-a-kind piece. Currently her collection is available worldwide through the direct contact to the designer or on social media.
