Transform Your Bedroom into a Cozy Retreat

Yesterday morning as I got out of bed and started heading into the kitchen, I realized it was quite chilly in the house. Hello, fall? Is that you? That realization might come as a shock to those of you still experiencing summer temperatures. While it’s getting chillier, I haven’t yet turned our heat on (even […]

Saluting Summer with Acapulco Chairs

Summer is almost over. Yet we enjoyed some very sunny and warm days in Munich earlier this week. It was a great moment to celebrate and salute summer with good friends, a yummy BBQ dinner, and the best garden companions: colourful Acapulco chairs. Honestly, these chairs have been a constant crush for me – the timeless design and the colors! Not to mention that I love Mexico and these chairs feel like a Mexican design icon to me! So pairing friends, BBQ and a few beautiful Acapulco chairs in my friend’s garden seemed like a great set up to salute summer in 2018!

Late summer evenings are the best – it is still warm but not hot, the light is magic and the transition to a new season is in flux. Even though I could feel a bit of autumn in the air, it still felt a lot like summer – partly because of the sunshine, partly because of the Acapulco chairs in petrol and the stool in yellow. The combination looked like a dash of summer coming directly from Mexico. Luckily nowadays you don’t have to travel all the way to Mexico to get your Acapulco chair. Yet it is tricky – as a design icon you will find lots of similar chairs online that are replicas. So I recommend you stick to a trustworthy design shop. In my case that is connox.de.

Acapulco Design produces its chairs and stools under fair conditions directly in Mexico City. Connox.de offers those colourful gems in their design webshop and brings a breeze of Mexico right to your garden, balcony or room. If I had a bigger balcony, guess what chairs I would put there? Yes, you are right! Now that you have  comfy and stylish design chairs, what else is missing? Yes, good drinks and food! In our case we had grilled shrimps as grilled veggies as a starter, followed by a scrumptious and juicy burger. Grilled Pimientos de PadrĂ³n brought a bit of Spain/Mexico to the table too. A glass of chilled white wine and an ice cold Tartufo as a dessert made the dinner perfect. Not to mentions the laughs, jokes, and fun with my friends. Good design is essential, but make sure you share it with good people too. Then it really becomes a perfect combination!

Fall Puttering

Hey friends! This week I’m making time for something I love to do. (I hope will, too.) I call it puttering, perhaps you call it something else? Puttering is to occupy yourself in an unhurried pleasant manner on a number of small tasks, while not concentrating on anything particular. I mean, is puttering not the […]

All That You Need To Know About Optical Pyrometer

If you have not heard about this device, then it is simply a device used in recording the temperatures of different objects. It works by tracking and measuring the resultant heat emitted by the object subject. Thermal heat released from the object enters the object system fitted inside the pyrometer where the optical instrument focuses the thermal radiation and then forwards it to the detector. The output temperature from the detector is then compared to thermal radiation that entered through the device to give the accurate temperature. One major advantage of this gadget is that no object contact between the pyrometer and the subject-object unlike in the case of Thermocouple and Resistance Temperature Detector.

The Optical Pyrometer

This is a temperature measuring device that is also a non-contact type. The difference of optical Pyrometer from the regular Pyrometer is that it operates on the principle of matching the brightness observed on the subject object to the brightness that reaches the filament that is placed inside the Pyrometer. The optical Pyrometer has many applications as it is used in measuring temperatures of different objects such as molten metals, furnaces, and any other overheated materials or liquids. The advantage of optical Pyrometer is that it records the temperatures of overheated bodies something which can’t be achieved by the use of contact Pyrometer as it might get damaged or even melt on molten metals.

When measuring temperature using the instrument, the brightness comparison is the main feature where there is a color change detected with the increase of the temperature of the object which its temperature is to be recorded. The instrument compares brightness released by the radiation effect from the subject-object to that brightness released as the reference. This ref temperature is released by a filament lamp in which its brightness can be regulated un

til its intensity equals the temperature of the subject object is to be recorded. The light intensity of an object always depends on the temperature of that object no matter the wavelength. This provides the principle which is used to record the temperature. The temperature is adjusted until it levels up and the current that passes through is recorded using the multimeter considering its value is directly relates to that origin temperature of the source object where it is then calibrated to give the accurate results.

Constructing an Optical Pyrometer

It is a simple device to construct where the Pyrometer is in a cylindrical shape. The lens is placed on one end and the eyepiece at the other end. The lamp is then placed between the lens and the eyepiece. A filter is then placed in front of the eyepiece which helps in obtaining monochromatic light. The filament is then connected to the ammeter, a rheostat, and a battery.

How Optical Pyrometer works

The working is simple where the lens focuses radiated energy from the subject-object onto the electric filament. The intensity of the filament will depend on the current that passes through where the adjustable current passes through the lamp and the intensity recorded to give accurate temperatures after calibration.

The Pros of Optical Pyrometer

The instrument gives accurate measurements.
No body contact when measuring the temperatures which enable the instrument to be used in various applications.

The Cons of Optical Pyrometer

The working of the instrument depends on the emitted temperatures from the subject body thus only used to take temperature measurements above 700 degrees Celcius
Can’t be used in measuring clean glass temperatures.

Four Cozy Fall Morning Routines

Iwoke up yesterday morning and there was a definite chill in the air! I loved it and wore a sweater and boots because I could. One of my favorite things is enjoying cozy fall mornings. I realized this week that I haven’t quite got in my daily fall rhythm, so my mornings aren’t as cozy […]
