Urban Jungle Bloggers: Tropicool Styling

Summer is in full swing here. More than 30 degrees outside and in my rooftop apartment – equally! Truly I live a tropical dream (or nightmare at nights), whether I want it or not. So working on our summer styling topic ‘Tropicool’ for the Urban Jungle Bloggers was pretty easy. Given the limited space, I opted for a tropicool reading nook. Surrounded by my tropical plants of course!

For practical reasons I decided to install my tropicool reading nook right next to my tropical plant gang. The ever growing Monstera deliciosa, the Kentia palm, my Calathea orbifolia, as well as my Ponytail palm and a tiny Banana plant were a perfect backdrop. The dusky pink Serie 7 chair by Arne Jacobsen was a perfect colour addition for the tropical theme and it matched my new Anthurium with pink flowers. A few cushions, my record player, and the latest issue of the Blad Journal, and all was set!

But enough about the simple styling. Let us talk about the plants! So why have I flocked my tropical plants together? First of all for practical reasons. When I water them (which is more frequently than the other plants) I can do it all at once. Plus tropical plants prefer a higher humidity level. A group of plants creates a certain microclimate all by themselves already. But it is also very handy when you mist the plants. One round of misting and all plants get a tropical cover of water drops. Additionally I have a little hydrometer to keep track of the humidity level.

Now let’s turn to the relaxed part. Once the plant care routine is over, it’s time to enjoy the tropicool nook. Listening to some favorite vinyls, reading a magazine, and enjoying the presence of my pets – wooden elephant bookends, a little carved monkey, a wooden floating bird, the ceramic bird by the Bouroullec brothers. Oh and my vintage Mexican ceramic cat! How cute is she? I found her and the beautiful wooden carved plant stand/table in one of my favorite vintage webshops, Moineau.

But enough with my tropicool corner. I am off to read your stories and see your tropicool stylings! Enjoy the summer!
