I announced it on Instagram a few days ago and it has been on my to-do list for almost one year: this amazing home tour! Today I am inviting you to tour the incredible home of my friend Ben. Ben and I met roughly one year ago when I approached him on Instagram to shoot his garden shed. We met up to discuss the project and we ‘clicked’. Ever since we are best friends and I am very thankful for this friendship as he keeps inspiring me with his impeccable style. His home is a beacon of personal taste and a wonderful bohemian interior: a rich and eclectic mix of patterns, colors, items, plants. It is a little treasure cove that invites the visitor to roam and discover. So come and follow along!
Ben’s rented apartment is located in Munich’s buzzing Glockenbach district. The apartment is not big but has a perfect layout: 57 square meters are divided into a spacious living and dining space with an open kitchen, a hallway, a small bathroom and a comfy bedroom. Additionally, the apartment features two balconies on both sides. Imagine the amount of natural light flowing through this space. It is magic.
Ben’s interior style is very personal: It is bohemian, eclectic and very well curated. Every piece in his home was carefully chosen or made. Yes ‘made’ is an appropriate word here because Ben has many talents, besides being a great gardener, he is also a devoted and talented ceramicist. Almost every ceramic piece in his home is self-made – plates, cups, bowls, planters, decorative objects.
The living room is a real urban jungle – Hoyas, Kalanchoes, cacti, trailing Pothos and Philodendrons, fragile String of Pearls, all of them create a lush atmosphere in the living room. The latest addition is a Monstera deliciosa variegata – a treasured plant that was on Ben’s wishlist for quite a while. The plants in Ben’s living room live in perfect harmony with a gallery wall of framed butterflies, ceramic items, minerals and crystals. A wooden fireplace mantle was recently added as well as the green velvet lounge chair from Ikea. Now this is what I call a reading nook, right?
The other side is defined by a green sectional sofa, thrifted nesting tables and beautiful wall decor with collected items from various trips. The other third of the living room serves as a dining area with an old dining table and wooden chairs. The kitchen opens up to the living space and adds a warm and cozy feeling. Also you get all the yummy scents from Ben’s baking adventures right to your nostrils while sitting at the dining table. Moreover the green kitchen backsplash is a perfect visual continuation from the living space to the kitchen.
The bedroom is located on the other side of the apartment. The brushed grey walls are perfect for a moody and tranquile atmosphere in the bedroom. A comfortable bed is framed by art, crystals, plants and other objects. Opposite of the bed is an antique wooden cupboad containing other treasures, flea market finds and travel souvenirs. Ben’s handmade ceramics are hidden on a shelf behind the door (he sells them just FYI), and an amazingly lush Philodendron Red Emerald is climbing on a handmade trellis.
The big advantage of shooting a bohemian interior like Ben’s is that you get so many picture perfect corners that you could actually make three home stories. Moreover, you can be sure to be served a delicous meal, a warm cake and freshly brewed coffee. All served on handmade plates and in hand-thrown mugs. Ah paradise.
