When Prehistory meets Modern Times

One of my favorite Finnish design labels, Saana ja Olli, did it again. They launched a new collection that is beautiful, intriguing and tells a story. ‘Ikiaika’ is the mysterious name of the range of wonderful home textiles. The name literally translates to ‘the eternal’ which hints at the collection’s inspiration. The design is inspired by people’s eternal need to express themselves. This collection draws its direct inspiration from prehistoric cave drawings and artefacts from Finland and translates these into modern Nordic design. The result is a wonderful range of home textiles.

Timelessness has always been an important fact to the design team at ‘Saana ja Olli’. Merging prehistoric influences through primitive patterns with a modern twist adds a new level of interest and meaning to their latest collection. Olli Sallinen, one half of the design couple, says: ‘Studying people’s self-expression from 6000 years ago puts your modern-time issues into perspective. After all, 99 per cent of the history of the human race is prehistory’.

As usual, this is done on 100 % European hemp fabric that is printed and packaged in Finland directly. The ‘Ikiaika’ collection will be available for purchase during October 2016.
