Essential Living and Wooden Floors

Let me tell you one thing. Whenever I think of moving, I always fear the fact to find a lovely apartment with no wooden floors. That would definitely be a no-go for me. Wooden flooring, be it parquet or planks, is essential to me. It is part of my essential living if you want so. Hence, when Boen asked me to get creative with their wooden floors I was all game.

First let me introduce you (if you don’t know them): Boen is an international and high-quality manufacturer of hardwood flooring with Norwegian roots. For their latest product launch they teamed up with one of the leading trend experts (and my dear friend) Gudy Herder. Gudy worked on three trends for Boen and today I want to focus on one that resonates with me a lot: Essential.

The trend ‘Essential’ focuses on our desire to return to our roots. The deep understanding and appreciation of our roots is boosted by a fast-paced world dictated by digital impulses and rapid consumerism. Think of nature, plants, handmade, raw materials. It also nods to the Japanese ‘Wabi Sabi’ philosophy where perfection is to be found in imperfection. Eventually I felt that this trend perfectly described my current home.

The idea of bringing the ‘Essential’ trend into visualization resulted in a free-spirited mood board. I call it free spirited as I let my guts lead the way. I hardly stick to rules and put too much thought into it – it is more what comes from within and feels right. I matched natural materials like wood, ceramics, stones, but also plants and dried flowers. I added touches of green, ochre, and blue. Finally, the wooden floor samples from Boen framed the mood board.

So what do you think of the trend ‘Essential’? Where do you see yourself more – in ‘Essential’, ‘Pause’, or ‘Drama is the new black’? Here’s Gudy’s video that explains more about the trend ‘Essential’:
