Soulful Spaces: New York Studio Apartment

Today I want to share more soulful spaces with you (more soulful spaces here). I spotted this home story on Lonny and felt inspired from the very first moment. Personal spaces always catch my eye. I draw inspiration from the display of personal items and a non-conformist approach to interior styling. Moreover, this is a rather small studio apartment that breaks typical small-space rules. Even more interesting!

The charming New York City studio is the realm of design aficionados Ann Stephenson and Lori Scacco. When they moved in more than 14 years ago, they tried to obey to the common small-space rules. Sleek furniture with efficient and discreet storing spaces, small tables, chairs and so on. They kept the home decor minimalistic and achieved one thing: a lifeless space that did not show their personalities. That’s when they decided that small-space rules were not for them. And they went back to maximalism.

Filling their 35 square meters studio with personal items brought the soul back to the space. Inherited furniture pieces, a personal art collection, piles of books, items from their upstate farmhouse – all these contributed to their personal and soulful home. Now they say they live among items that have a strong connection to them and a sense of history. And that’s the magic when it comes to interior styling. Let your personality and intuition define the space not the rules. Live your style. And create your own soulful spaces.

This studio truly inspires me. My home has a similar size and I think I will steal a few styling ideas from this New York City studio. Especiall the idea to use stacks of books for nice props and personal decor items. Hop over to Lonny to see the full home tour and read the full interview. Happy styling!
