I love when I discover small labels by creative people from different countries. Recently I stumbled upon a little ceramics label from my parents’ native Serbia: anaesKeramik. The young ceramicist named Ana Savic, a trained landscape architect, is based in central Serbia and creates beautiful handmade ceramics that have a simple, rustic and sometimes playful aesthetic. Every piece is a one-of-a-kind and her work is strongly influenced by her time spent in Indonesia.

Ana lived on the island of Bali in Indonesia for four years and discovered her passion for ceramics right there. She learned local techniques at the art faculty and continued her training in two ceramics studios. Upon return to her native Serbia she has continued her work up to today. She creates small batches of fine ceramics with beautiful glazings in her hometown of Krusevac. Currently her work is only available in a few selected design shops in Belgrade. But I keep urging her to launch her Etsy shop. Guess what, I’d be a customer from the first minute!

Handmade ceramics are a safe way to catch my attention. I love the imperfection that make each piece unique and actually perfect to me. I prefer those pieces much more than staple ceramics from big stores. And as an Urban Jungle Blogger I am always out on the hunt for new ceramics to host my plants. So here’s the deal: I promise next time I am in Serbia, I will stop by at Ana’s studio and make a proper story about her and her lovely work. Deal?
